So it has been a crazy couple of weeks so sorry for not updating...
Aiden is now home! He came home on 10/10 at 5lbs 8oz! He was in the NICU for 79 days! You do not know how happy we are that he is home! It has been an adjustment especially for my toddler but we are doing great and he is growing like a weed! He had his first pediatrician appointment 2 days after and he was up to 5lbs 10oz! According to the pediatrician he should gain an ounce a day...he then had a weight check today...well technically yesterday and he is now at 6lbs 3oz! I was very worried though bc he has been straining and turning beet red so that he could poop and those things for preemies can burn too many calories and cause them to either lose weight or not gain any.
Brayden is still in the hospital and has had a few setbacks :(
The day Aiden came home they put both of them on the formula neosure. That's when he started to have worse issues with spitting up...it was coming out of his nose! And a couple days ago he desatted for 4 minutes and had to be bagged! I was even there when he stopped breathing a couple of times...it was so scary...watching your little one turn blue so fast! I have seen Aiden turn blue and truly freaked me out!
So after seeing that happened to Brayden, spoke with one of the head of neonatology there and told him about Caleb's milk protein allergy and he changed his formula...I just had a hunch that Brayden's primary doctor didn't remember or wasn't told by the previous primary doctor about Caleb's milk protein allergy...and once he switched he actually started to do well...then all of a sudden the 4 minute desat...
Well...then I find out that my regular pooper hadn't pooped for 2 days! How do you miss that? The nurses are supposed to write down every time he poops! Unless he had different nurses every shift change and no one bothered to look at what happened in the last shift as well as didn't get reports from previous nurses...this should not have been missed! And you can believe it I am upset! Now even more bc I spoke to his primary doctor and she won't listen and just keeps telling me that I am trying to tell her how to do her job! HELLO! You guys missed the poop thing which could be why he desatted like that and needed to be bagged...oh and they put him on Zantac on the same day he finally had pooped and started to do much better...I wanted her to take him off the meds to see if the reason he desatted was because he had not pooped and not bc of reflux...she just would not listen and then said she had to go...ugh! I hope to talk to the head doc and get this taken care of...
So take away for those who are going through the NICU experience is make sure to be persistent and trust your instincts...it doesn't matter that your child is not home with you when it comes to mommy instincts...it kicks in as soon as you have your child...Brayden was fine as soon as he was changed on the formula but bc of several changes he seems to have had a tummy ache which caused him to be constipated...talk to everyone until someone listens! This is your child! They say they advocate for their patients but it is your child so you need to push for what you think is best! Yes you are not a doctor but our instincts about our children should not be taken lightly...
Ok off my soapbox...until next time!
